I attended some friends’ annual Christmas Music Party last night. One guy sang an acapella tune that blew me away. He said it was called “Resolution” by Kurt Elling. Really, Kurt Elling wrote words to John Coltrane’s solo from “A Love Supreme” (1965). Am I the last to hear about Kurt Elling? For those of you in SoCal, he will be at Catalina’s in Hollywood in March.

Ash & I saw him at the Getty’s auditorium a couple of years ago. Our mouths were hanging open the whole time.

Hi Sharolyn! Just curious…have your read the lyrics to “Resolution”? What’s your take on the message?

Ooh, lovely. Kurt Elling fans. I first heard his stuff in college, which was [blushes] my first introduction to jazz. Freakin’, *&%$# ultra-Christian upbringing. No jazz? NO JAZZ?!? Anyway,
Man, he changed…everything. My musical, spiritual, personal philosophies. The guy blows me away - such a generous soul.
And still, my favorite cut of all time is “It’s Just a Thing”. Gone, baby. Solid gone.
